Skating feels like you're dragging cinderblocks, passes go wherever they want, and players glitch into frozen statues—but somehow that’s the charm. It’s the kind of broken where missing the net makes you laugh instead of rage.

Hat Trick came out in 1984 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Bally Midway. It was a simple hockey game for its time, fitting right in with the straightforward, often clunky sports titles that filled the early home computer era. You didn't get deep league modes or realistic physics; you got two players on a screen, a puck, and a goal to defend.
You control a single hockey player, switching between offense and defense as the puck changes possession. The main objective is just to score more goals than the computer opponent. The signature mechanics are basic: you pass the puck (though it often goes astray), you take shots on goal, and you try to body check the other player to steal the puck. The skating feels heavy, almost like you're dragging your player across the ice, and the difficulty comes from the unpredictable puck physics and your own player's sluggish responsiveness. It feels like a chaotic, slightly broken arcade experience where every goal feels earned more by luck than skill.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
