Helious II came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Sean M. Puckett. It was one of those shareware titles you'd find on a floppy disk, a product of its time when action games were often built on tight mechanics and a clear, if punishing, vision. It fits right in with the era's focus on direct, uncomplicated challenges.

You pilot a small ship through vertically scrolling stages filled with enemy craft and intricate bullet patterns. Your main goal is survival; you shoot constantly, collect power-ups to enhance your weapons, and navigate through waves of adversaries that demand quick reflexes. The screen frequently fills with enemy fire, requiring precise dodging and strategic positioning. Boss fights are large, multi-phase encounters that test your memory and timing.
