Highway Fighter was one of those MS-DOS games that felt right at home in the late 80s, a straightforward arcade-style racer without a lot of fuss. I don't recall the developer offhand, but it was the kind of game you'd find on a shareware disk or bundled with others, a simple concept executed with the limited tech of the time.

You control a red sports car from an overhead view, weaving through relentless highway traffic to reach a set number of checkpoints before your fuel runs out. The core mechanics are avoiding oncoming trucks and cars, managing your dwindling gas gauge, and pulling into refuel zones without crashing. The pacing is frantic; your car handles with a deliberate heaviness, making sudden maneuvers risky. Every near miss is tense, and running out of gas or wrecking sends you right back to the start. It feels like a constant, white-knuckle battle against the road itself.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
