Game Overview

Highway Hunter came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Orion Software. It was one of those straightforward arcade-style shooters that felt right at home on DOS, a platform filled with games that prioritized immediate action over complex stories. You didn't need a manual to understand what was happening; you just jumped in and started shooting.

You control a lone vehicle speeding endlessly along a highway, using the arrow keys to dodge enemy cars and holding the spacebar to fire at everything in your path. The main objective is survival, racking up points by destroying hostile vehicles, tanks, and eventually even alien saucers that warp into the fray. Signature mechanics include collecting power-ups that alter your weapon, like spreading your shots or adding homing capabilities, and navigating increasingly chaotic traffic patterns that demand quick reflexes. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty escalates sharply as enemy fire saturates the screen. It feels like a tense, high-speed battle where one wrong move ends your run.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
