Game Overview

Hyper Olympic - Winter 2000 on the Game Boy Color is one of those games that looks simple until you actually try it. You’ve got ski jumping, downhill racing, and a few other winter events crammed into this tiny cartridge, all with that classic arcade feel where your thumbs are basically doing cardio. The pixelated snow might not look like much now, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about nailing a perfect jump after faceplanting five times in a row.

It’s definitely got that old-school Konami energy—if you’ve played any of the other Hyper Olympic games, you know the drill. Button mashing? Check. Sudden panic when you realize you’ve been holding A instead of B? Absolutely. The events are quick, so you’ll probably cycle through all of them in the first 10 minutes, but getting good takes way longer than you’d think. And yeah, it’s a Japan-only release, so there’s some novelty in just owning it if you’re into that sort of thing.

Honestly, it’s the kind of game you dig out when friends are over and someone says, “Wait, they made a Winter Olympics game for the Game Boy?” Then suddenly everyone’s arguing over who gets to try the bobsled next.
