Game Overview

Inazuma Eleven came out on the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Level-5. It was part of that wave of DS games that really leaned into the touch screen, and it stood out because it blended soccer with a full-on RPG. You weren't just playing matches; you were managing a team, exploring schools and towns, and getting pulled into this whole story about saving your soccer club.

You control Mark Evans, the goalkeeper and captain of Raimon Middle School's team, as you travel across Japan recruiting new players and challenging rival schools. The main goal is to rebuild your team and win the Football Frontier tournament. Between story-driven matches, you explore areas screen by screen, talk to NPCs to trigger events, and recruit characters by fulfilling specific conditions. The soccer matches themselves use a hybrid system: you move your players in real time but trigger special moves with the stylus in dramatic, turn-based sequences. Pacing is brisk, with frequent matches broken up by exploration and training sessions where you level up individual techniques. It feels chaotic and strategic at the same time, especially when you pull off a last-second hissatsu technique to turn the game around.
