Game Overview

International Athletics came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a title developed by The Software Toolworks. It was one of those straightforward sports simulations that felt right at home on early PCs, offering a no frills take on track and field events without the graphical ambition of later titles.

You control an athlete competing across several disciplines, including sprinting, hurdles, and the long jump. The main objective is to win medals by outperforming computer opponents or beating your own records. Signature mechanics involve rapid alternating key presses for running, timed single key actions for jumps, and managing a stamina bar that depletes with effort. The pacing is frantic during races but requires patience and precision in field events, with a difficulty that feels punishing but fair with practice. It feels like a genuine test of both timing and endurance, leaving your fingers sore but satisfied after a close finish.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
