Game Overview

Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker was one of those games that made you feel like you'd actually stepped into a snooker hall—if snooker halls had balls that got impatient and started waving signs at you. The physics were ridiculously good for 1991, with every spin and rebound feeling weighty and real. I remember spending way too much time just testing how the cue ball reacted to different angles before even trying to pot anything.

It wasn't all serious, though. If you took too long lining up a shot, the balls would sprout little arms and eyes, rolling around impatiently or holding up "Hurry up!" signs. The goofy sound effects—like that loud "POP" whenever a ball dropped—kept it from feeling stuffy. And the trick shot editor? Pure gold for messing around when you got tired of actual matches.

Fun fact: The dev, Archer MacLean, spent months just getting the ball physics right. It shows—even now, the way everything moves feels satisfyingly accurate. There was even a cheat to watch the AI pull off a perfect 147 break, which blew my mind back then. Still holds up as one of the best snooker sims ever made.
