Game Overview

Jumpman came out in 1983 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Epyx. It was one of those early platformers that felt right at home on a computer keyboard, a straightforward challenge without a lot of frills, just you and a series of ladders and platforms to navigate.

You control a small character, Jumpman, who must climb ladders and jump across gaps to rescue hostages from each single-screen level. The main objective is to grab every hostage while avoiding enemies like bouncing bombs and roaming creatures; touching any hazard means instant death and restarting the level. The game progresses screen by screen, with each stage introducing new enemy patterns and more complex platform layouts. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, because the jumps require exact timing and the levels demand careful route planning. It feels like a test of patience and precision, where every move counts and mistakes are costly.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
