Ruri’s deadpan commentary cuts through your mahjong matches as the Nadesico crew heckles you between rounds—somehow, this feels more like hanging out in the ship’s mess than a standard tile game.

Game Overview

Okay, so Kidou Senkan Nadesico - Ruri Ruri Mahjong is basically mahjong, but with all the weird, wonderful energy of the Nadesico anime crammed into a Game Boy Color cartridge. You’ve got Ruri—the ship’s hilariously monotone AI—judging your tile choices while the rest of the crew pops up with their usual antics. The pixel art’s surprisingly vibrant for a GBC game, and the mahjong itself? Solid. Not too punishing, but not a pushover either.

First time I booted it up, I expected a generic reskin, but nah—they actually put effort into making it feel like you’re hanging out on the Nadesico between battles. Little dialogue bits, character-specific reactions when you win (or spectacularly fail). If you’ve ever wanted to crush Akito in a match while Yurika cheers in the background, this is your chance. It’s niche, but in the best way.
