Game Overview

Kiki Kaikai - Tsukiyo Soushi is one of those SNES games that slipped under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. You play as Sayo-chan, a shrine maiden who fights yokai—not with swords or guns, but by hurling sacred talismans like some kind of spiritual paper ninja. The first stage throws you right into it: lantern-lit paths, floating heads with creepy grins, and this eerie soundtrack that makes everything feel just a little haunted.

It’s like Pocky & Rocky if it took place at midnight in a ghost story. You’ve got to weave through bullet-hell patterns while making every talisman count—run out, and you’re stuck waiting for a slow recharge, which adds this great tension. The bosses are wild, too: one minute you’re dodging a giant umbrella spirit, the next you’re fighting a possessed train. The pixel art nails that old-school Japanese folklore vibe, all washed in blues and purples like moonlight.

Fair warning, though: it’s tough. Not unfair, but the kind of game where you’ll retry a stage just to nail the rhythm. If you’re into retro shooters with personality, this one’s a no-brainer.
