Play Kingmaker Online

You pick a side in the War of the Roses, then spend more time scheming against your own allies than fighting the enemy—bribing bishops, arranging sketchy marriages, and sweating when your unpaid troops abandon you mid-battle. That little DOS map somehow makes betrayal feel warm and personal.

Game Overview

Kingmaker is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow makes plotting medieval coups feel weirdly cozy. You start by picking a side in the War of the Roses—York or Lancaster, obviously—but halfway through my first game, I realized I cared more about backstabbing my allies than actually winning. The map’s this gorgeous mess of castles and forests, and every turn feels like whispering secrets in a tavern while someone sharpens a knife behind you.

It’s not just battles, though. You’ll bribe bishops, marry off your cousins (gross, but effective), and panic when your army deserts because you forgot to pay them. The combat’s simple—just little icons smashing into each other—but the real tension comes from wondering if that duke you just invited to dinner is about to poison you. And yeah, the graphics are pixelated as hell, but there’s something perfect about watching your crown wobble precariously after a bad decision.

Honestly, half the fun is losing spectacularly. I once got overthrown by my own wife. Worth it.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
