Play Kingmaker Online
In Kingmaker, manage your noble house, command armies, forge alliances, and navigate betrayals to place your claimant on the English throne during the Wars of the Roses.
Kingmaker came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by SSI Special Projects Group. It was a strategy title from a time when many games were still figuring out how to represent complex historical conflicts on screen, and it didn't rely on flashy graphics to make its point. You're placed right in the middle of the Wars of the Roses, a messy period of English history where loyalties were fragile and power shifted constantly.
You control a noble house, managing armies, forging alliances, and plotting against both enemies and supposed friends to put your chosen claimant on the throne. The main objective is to dominate England through military campaigns and political maneuvering, not just brute force. Key mechanics include moving regiments across a strategic map, negotiating with other nobles (often through bribes or marriage pacts), and dealing with random events that can upend your plans. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty comes from the constant threat of betrayal or bankruptcy. It feels like a tense game of chess where every move could trigger a cascade of consequences you didn't see coming.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
