Game Overview

Koushien Pocket is one of those Game Boy Color baseball games that somehow nails the tension of high school ball better than most big-budget console titles. You start by picking your school (I always go for the underdog teams—more satisfying when you finally win), then it’s straight into managing lineups and nervously watching your pitcher’s stamina drain inning by inning.

The pixel art has that perfect late-90s charm—tiny players with exaggerated wind-up animations, crowds that actually react to plays, and this satisfying crack sound when you connect with a fastball. What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in: do you burn your ace pitcher early or save them for the finals? Risk stealing bases with your slowest runner? It’s all here, just without the bloated menus of modern sports games.

If you’ve ever watched a Koushien tournament and wanted to feel that same mix of pressure and pride, this little cartridge absolutely delivers. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time during extra innings.
