Game Overview

I first played Kunio-kun no Dodge Ball on the Super Nintendo in 1993, a Technos Japan release that fit right in with the era's love for quirky sports games. It didn't try to be a simulation; it was loud, fast, and full of personality, a perfect fit for the SNES library that already had plenty of arcade-style experiences.

You control a team of kids, moving your character around the court to catch or throw the ball. The main goal is simple: eliminate the opposing team by hitting them with the ball before they can do the same to you. Signature mechanics include charging your throws for more power, unleashing screen-filling super shots that can take out multiple opponents at once, and even diving to catch incoming throws at the last second. Matches are quick and chaotic, with a difficulty that spikes sharply against the CPU teams later on. It feels like controlled mayhem, where one well-timed throw can completely turn the tide of a match.
