Game Overview

I picked up The Land Before Time for Game Boy Color back in 2001, developed by Sound Source Interactive. It was one of those licensed games that felt familiar if you grew up with the film, but it stood on its own as a simple, straightforward adventure on a handheld that was already crowded with platformers and RPGs. The graphics were colorful and captured the look of the Great Valley well, even on that small screen.

You control Littlefoot, navigating through side scrolling levels filled with obstacles and enemies like Sharpteeth. The main goal is to rescue your dinosaur friends by progressing screen by screen, often pushing boulders to clear paths or trigger switches. You also collect clover leaves and avoid hazards like falling rocks and pits. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with occasional awkward jumps that add to the challenge. It feels like a gentle, sometimes clunky trek through a world you remember, but with just enough interaction to keep you tapping buttons.
