Game Overview

Legions is one of those old-school MS-DOS strategy games that makes you feel like an actual emperor sweating over maps by candlelight. You start with a single city, and suddenly you're obsessing over grain shipments, nervously eyeing neighboring factions, and wondering if that trade deal with the Gauls was a mistake. The battles are chess-like—positioning matters more than brute force—but what really hooked me was how diplomacy actually works. Allies betray you, weak factions play the long game, and sometimes paying tribute is smarter than sending your last legion to die.

It’s slower than Civilization, more like a history textbook that fights back. I lost three games before realizing you can’t just spam hoplites and expect to win. The interface takes some getting used to (this is DOS, after all), but once it clicks, you’ll be scribbling notes about which provinces produce iron. Still holds up if you’re into deep strategy without flashy graphics.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
