Legions came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Mindscape. It was a strategy title from a time when turn-based empire builders were finding their footing on home computers, offering depth without the graphical intensity of later releases.
You control the Roman Empire, managing cities, armies, and diplomacy across a map of the ancient world. The main goal is to conquer rival factions through military campaigns or political maneuvering. Key mechanics include moving legions province by province, managing resources like food and gold, and negotiating (or betraying) alliances with AI opponents. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be steep, especially when supply lines thin or neighbors turn hostile. It feels like a tense, methodical puzzle where every decision carries weight.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
