Game Overview

I picked up LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a portable take on the console game developed by Traveller's Tales. It was a solid little action title for its time, fitting right in with the kind of pick-up-and-play experiences you expected on the GBA, no fuss, just straightforward fun.

You control various characters from the prequel trilogy, like Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon, moving through levels that recreate scenes from The Phantom Menace. The main goal is to fight through waves of battle droids, solve simple environmental puzzles by building objects out of LEGO bricks, and collect enough studs to unlock new characters and extras. You use a basic blaster for ranged attacks, which can be charged for more power, and a lightsaber for deflecting shots back at enemies. The pacing is quick, with levels broken into distinct screens you clear one after another, and the difficulty stays manageable, never too punishing. It feels satisfying to slice through droids and see all those studs scatter across the screen.
