Game Overview

Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge came out in 1992 for MS-DOS, developed by Magnetic Fields and published by Gremlin Graphics. It was part of that era when racing games were starting to push beyond simple tracks, experimenting with perspective and player choice. You weren't just racing against a clock; you were navigating a world built for speed.

You control one of several high-performance sports cars, each with different handling and top speed, through a series of point-to-point stages. The main objective is to win races across various environments, from coastal roads to mountain passes, while managing your car's fuel and tire wear. Signature mechanics include selecting different routes at forks in the road, which can drastically change the race's difficulty, and using a turbo boost that must be carefully managed to avoid overheating. The pacing is fast and demanding, requiring quick reflexes to dodge traffic and hit apexes. It feels like a tense, strategic battle against both the clock and the course itself.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
