Game Overview

Ever played a text adventure that actually makes you nervous? The Lurking Horror is one of those—it’s set in a creepy university campus during a snowstorm, and something’s definitely not right. You start off just trying to hand in a late assignment (relatable), but then the lights flicker, the hallways get weirdly quiet, and suddenly you’re poking around in places you probably shouldn’t.

The Amiga version adds this eerie soundtrack that ramps up the tension, especially when you’re stuck in some dark basement trying to figure out if that noise was just the pipes or… something else. It’s got that old-school Infocom vibe where every object might matter, but good luck guessing how. I remember wasting half an hour trying to use a cafeteria tray before realizing it was useless—classic.

If you like slow-burn horror where the scares come from your own imagination filling in the gaps, this one’s a gem. Just maybe play with the lights on.
