Demon’s World (or Horror Story, depending on where you find it) is one of those old arcade games that somehow makes pixelated monsters legitimately creepy. You play as this guy with a flamethrower—because of course—wandering through dimly lit corridors while zombies, bats, and who-knows-what-else shamble toward you. The controls are simple, but the levels get seriously tense when you’re low on ammo and something’s groaning just off-screen.

It’s got that classic arcade vibe where everything wants to kill you, but in a way that makes you lean forward in your seat instead of rage-quitting. The music doesn’t help—it’s all ominous synths that make even picking up a power-up feel like a trap. If you miss when games were hard just because they wanted to mess with you, this one’s a weird little time capsule.
