Game Overview

MacArthurs War - Battles for Korea came out in 1992 from Strategic Simulations, Inc., one of those deep, turn-based strategy games that defined the MS-DOS era. It didn't have flashy graphics, but it demanded your full attention, placing you right in the middle of the Korean War's pivotal moments. You had to think several moves ahead, just like in the best board games of the time, but with the added complexity a computer could manage.

You control divisions and regiments, moving them across a detailed hex map of Korea, managing their supply status and fatigue while engaging enemy forces. The main objective is to achieve historical goals, like holding the Pusan Perimeter or pushing toward the Yalu River, depending on the scenario. Key mechanics include calculating combat odds based on unit strength, terrain, and supply, then resolving attacks in detailed tactical battles. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, forcing you to consider every artillery barrage and infantry advance. It feels like conducting a precarious, large-scale operation where one misstep can unravel your entire front.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
