Game Overview

Mace: The Dark Age is one of those N64 fighters that went all-in on the grimdark medieval vibe. You’ve got 18 warriors swinging everything from katanas to morningstars, and the combat feels weighty—like your hits actually connect. At first, I kept mashing buttons, but after a few matches, I realized there’s a rhythm to it: sidestep, counter, then chain a couple of weapon strikes into a combo. Mess up the timing, though, and you’ll eat a mace to the face.

The arenas are half the fun—acid pits, spinning blades, even random pots you can chuck at your opponent. And yeah, it’s brutal. Executions (think Mortal Kombat fatalities but with more decapitations) are ridiculous in the best way, though you can turn the gore off if it’s too much. Not the deepest fighter on the N64, but it’s got personality for days.
