Play Madagascar (E)(Independent) Online

Madagascar on GBA has you switching between the movie’s animals—smashing walls as Gloria, awkwardly stretching as Melman, or doing Alex’s ridiculous dance moves to distract foes. Those fossa chases are still panic-inducing, and the jungle levels somehow pop on that tiny screen.

Game Overview

Ever wanted to run wild with Alex the Lion and Marty the Zebra? This GBA gem throws you right into their escape from the zoo, and it's way more chaotic than I expected—in a good way. You'll jump between characters like Gloria the hippo (who can smash through stuff) and Melman the giraffe (awkward but weirdly useful), solving little puzzles and dodging predators in jungles that look surprisingly vibrant for a tiny screen.

It nails the movie's goofy energy—like when you have to dance as Alex to distract enemies, which is as ridiculous as it sounds. The fossa chase scenes still stress me out years later, though. Hidden bananas and mini-games pop up when you least expect them, and switching characters keeps the platforming from getting stale. If you grew up with the film or just love old-school handheld adventures, this one holds up better than you'd think.

Just don't blame me when you get the lemur dance music stuck in your head.
