Game Overview

I remember picking up Madagascar for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. It was one of those licensed platformers that felt pretty common at the time, but it stood out for how it translated the movie's energy into something playable on the small screen. The graphics were bright and colorful, making good use of the GBA's capabilities without trying to overreach.

You control Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, each with their own moves. Alex can roar to stun enemies, Marty kicks, Gloria smashes through barriers, and Melman stretches his neck to reach high platforms. The goal is to escape the Central Park Zoo and eventually make it back from Madagascar, navigating through linear levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and occasional chase sequences. The pacing is brisk, though some sections can feel repetitive, and the difficulty is manageable but not without a few frustrating jumps or timing challenges. It feels like a straightforward, lighthearted adventure that captures the spirit of the film without overcomplicating things.
