You play as John, turning enemies into blocks with your wand—then stacking them to climb, trap foes, or bounce fireballs back. Starts simple, then suddenly you're building staircases from frozen bad guys while dodging grinning mushrooms.

Game Overview
Magic John (NES) – This weird little Japanese action-puzzle hybrid somehow slipped past most people back in the day, which is a shame because it’s got this bizarre charm I can’t quite explain. You’re John, some guy with a magic wand that turns enemies into blocks—not just for show, either. You’ll stack those blocks to reach platforms, trap other baddies, or even redirect fireballs. Feels like someone mashed up Mario’s jumping with Bomberman’s "wait, can I use this against them?" moments.
The first few levels trick you into thinking it’s simple, then suddenly you’re juggling five different enemy types while trying to build a staircase out of their frozen corpses. And the art style? Pure late-80s Japanese weirdness—think smiling mushrooms next to grimacing knights. It controls surprisingly well for an NES deep cut, though good luck finding a physical copy now. Definitely one of those "how did this not get a sequel?" games.
