Magician came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1983, developed by Eurocom. It was one of those early NES titles that tried to blend different ideas, arriving before many of the console's later classics had established a clear template for action or adventure games. You control a young magician named Paul, moving screen by screen through the cursed forest of Merlwood. Your main goal is to defeat the evil Abadon, but getting there means fighting monsters, solving environmental puzzles, and gathering reagents to craft spells. The magic system is the standout; you collect ingredients like roots and feathers to cast different offensive and defensive spells, which adds a thoughtful, almost RPG-like layer to the combat. It's not an easy game; enemies respawn when you leave a screen, and some jumps require precise timing. Playing it feels like cautiously testing each new spell, hoping you brought the right components for the obstacles ahead.
