Game Overview

Magician Lord is one of those early Neo Geo games that still feels impressive—like, yeah, the sprites are huge, the animations are smooth, and the bosses take up half the screen. You play as this sorcerer dude trying to stop an evil god, but the cool part is how you can morph into different forms if you grab the right orbs. I kept accidentally turning into the Waterman at first (not my favorite, way too slow), but once I figured out the Shinobi’s double jump, everything clicked.

Each of the eight stages has its own vibe—lava pits, floating castles, the usual—and the bosses are no joke. That first guardian fight had me sweating, and then the actual area boss shows up like "surprise, here’s another health bar." It’s tough but fair, assuming you don’t mind memorizing a few patterns. Definitely a showcase for what the Neo Geo could do back in the day.
