Game Overview

Mahjong Hourouki Classic on the N64 is one of those games that looks simple at first—just matching tiles, right? But after a few rounds, you realize there’s way more to it. The Japanese version adds this weirdly satisfying pressure with its timer ticking down, and the AI actually puts up a decent fight.

I remember getting stuck on the third stage for ages because I kept overlooking the damn dora tiles. The music’s oddly chill for how intense some of the matches get, and the tile designs have that classic late-'90s pixel charm. If you’ve ever played real mahjong, you’ll appreciate how close it feels, minus the risk of losing actual money.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you like slow-burn strategy games, this one’s a solid time capsule.
