Pick a weirdo—sumo chef, demon teddy girl—and smack each other with ridiculous special moves. It’s janky, hilarious, and totally '90s.

Game Overview

Makeruna! Makendou is one of those weird, charming SNES fighters that never made it outside Japan. It's got that mid-'90s vibe—bright colors, exaggerated animations, and a roster full of oddball characters like a sumo wrestler who fights with a giant ladle or a schoolgirl with a demonic teddy bear. The controls are simple (no crazy combos here), but the characters all feel distinct—some are slow and heavy, others are quick but fragile.

What really sticks with me is how over-the-top the special moves are. One guy literally throws his own head at you. It’s not the most balanced fighter out there, but it’s got personality for days. The PlayStation version added some extra modes, but the SNES original still holds up if you’re into quirky retro brawlers. Definitely a hidden gem if you can track it down.
