Mario's Castle (SMB1 Hack) is exactly what it sounds like—a romhack that remixes the original Super Mario Bros. into something darker and more claustrophobic. Instead of open skies and rolling hills, you're mostly navigating tight castle corridors packed with firebars, hammer bros, and those annoying bullet bills that always seem to catch you off-guard.
The level design leans hard into the castle aesthetic, with way more lava pits and moving platforms than the original game. It's not unfair, but you'll definitely die a lot figuring out the timing. The first stage alone has this brutal jump over a pit with two firebars spinning in opposite directions—took me like six tries to get past it cleanly.
If you're into classic Mario but want something that feels familiar yet fresh, Mario's Castle (SMB1 Hack) delivers. Just don't expect a breezy nostalgia trip.
