Game Overview

I picked up Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 on the PSP back in 2009, developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. It was a solid handheld adaptation during a time when having a console-like brawler in your pocket still felt novel. The game drops you right into the middle of the superhero Civil War, forcing you to choose between Iron Man's pro-registration side or Captain America's resistance.

You control a team of four heroes, swapping between them on the fly to punch, blast, and throw enemies across destructible environments. The main goal is to fight through screen after screen of Hydra agents and super-villains, completing objectives that push the story forward. Two mechanics define the experience: the Fusion system lets you combine powers for massive area attacks, and the team leveling encourages replayability with different character combinations. The pacing is brisk, though some levels feel repetitive, and the difficulty can spike during boss fights. It feels satisfying to unleash a well-timed Fusion and watch the screen fill with explosions and stunned enemies.
