Pick your Marvel squad, smash through waves of goons, and pull off wild team-up attacks—just try not to piss off Iron Man or Cap when you pick sides in the Civil War. Thor’s hammer swings feel weighty, Deadpool won’t shut up, and those lightning-charged claw combos? Chef’s kiss.
Game Overview
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. It was a solid addition to the PSP library, a time when handheld action-RPGs were gaining traction, and it brought a big roster of Marvel heroes into a portable format. The game adapted the Civil War storyline from the comics, giving players a reason to care about which side they picked beyond just the action.
You control a team of four superheroes, swapping between them on the fly as you brawl through corridors and open arenas. The main goal is to punch, blast, and slam your way through enemies while navigating level-based missions tied to the superhero conflict. Signature mechanics include Fusion attacks, where two characters combine powers for screen-clearing effects, and a faction system that changes certain story outcomes based on whether you side with Iron Man or Captain America. The pacing is brisk, with straightforward combat and occasional environmental puzzles to break things up. It feels satisfying to unleash a well-timed team combo and watch enemies fly across the screen.
