Game Overview
Masters of Combat is one of those weird little fighting games that does things just differently enough to throw you off at first. You pick from four fighters—each with their own weird backstory—and battle through a tournament that’s definitely hiding something shady. The mayor’s sudden obsession with crowning the world’s strongest fighter? Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all.
Controls take some getting used to since jumping isn’t mapped to "up" like most fighters—instead, you’ve got a dedicated button for it, leaving one for punches and another for kicks. Took me a couple matches to stop reflexively jumping into uppercuts. The roster’s small, but the mirror match gimmick at the end is a fun twist before the real final boss shows up.
Fair warning: if you pick the easiest difficulty, the game cuts you off before the last fight. Which, honestly, feels like the mayor’s doing—why let anyone see the real ending, right?
