Game Overview

Medarot 3 - Kabuto Version is one of those weird little GBC games that somehow sticks with you. You start off picking your first Medabot—I went with the beetle-themed ones because, well, Kabuto in the title—and immediately get thrown into customizing its parts. Head, arms, legs, all with different stats and abilities. Messing around with builds is half the fun, like giving your bot a sniper rifle arm but realizing too late it moves at a snail’s pace.

The battles are turn-based but with this neat positioning system where you’ve got to think about range and facing. Watching your little robot clunk around in pixel-art glory never gets old, especially when you’ve cobbled together some ridiculous combo of parts. And yeah, there’s a whole Pokémon-style version split here (Kuwagata’s the other one), so if you’re the type who needs to collect everything, good luck tracking down a copy.

It’s janky in that classic GBC way, but there’s something charming about how much personality they crammed into these tiny robots. If you ever wished Pokémon had more tinkering and slightly awkward tactical fights, this might be your thing.
