Sliding around neon tracks in a death race hosted by a manic TV guy—you’ll crash a lot at first, but nailing those drifts past bikers feels weirdly good.

MegaRace (MS-DOS) – Where Racing Meets Mayhem
MegaRace isn’t your average racing game. It’s set in a wild, dystopian future where street racing has become a bloodsport—televised for the masses. You play as the Enforcer, an unlucky contestant roped into a deadly game show, aired by the infamous VWBT (Virtual World Broadcast Television). Your job? Take out rogue gangs ruling the roads—and try to look good doing it.
A Game Show Like No Other
Each race kicks off with a sarcastic rant from the show’s over-the-top host, Lance Boyle (played brilliantly by Christian Erickson). Lance’s live-action intros are half taunt, half comedy routine—and fully entertaining. He mocks you, the gangs, and even the show itself. His twisted charm sets the perfect tone for what’s to come.
"Reality’s worst nightmare? It’s just another episode of MegaRace!" – Lance Boyle
Why It’s a Blast
- Virtual Carnage: You’re not just racing—you’re hunting. Blow up rival gang members and chase down their bosses.
- Gang Showdowns: Five themed gangs stand between you and victory. Take out their leaders to move up the ranks.
- Prize Cars: Win races, steal their rides. Each boss drops a new set of wheels (and a custom soundtrack to go with it).
- 14 Tracks of Insanity: From neon highways to surreal wastelands, every track throws something new at you.
- Full-Motion Video: Before FMV was a buzzword, MegaRace nailed it. Lance is part host, part menace—and 100% memorable.
How It Plays
- Chase and destroy: Your goal isn’t just to finish first—it’s to eliminate every rival before the race ends.
- Target bosses: Focus on taking out the gang leader to win the match and collect your reward.
- Dodge and weave: Obstacles, traps, and gunfire are all part of the ride. Keep your reflexes sharp.
Pro Tips
- Don’t floor it blindly: Some tracks demand finesse—slamming into a wall isn’t a great tactic.
- Pick your shots: Aim for the gang leader early to end things faster and rack up points.
- Learn the curves: Track memorization is key. Knowing where to brake—or blast—is half the battle.
- Upgrade is everything: Better cars mean better control, speed, and firepower. Earn them, and use them well.
Still a Cult Classic
Back in the early ‘90s, MegaRace was unlike anything else. A bizarre mash-up of racing, shooting, and live-action FMV, it carved out a weird and wonderful niche. Today, it’s remembered fondly not just for the gameplay—but for Lance Boyle’s snarky monologues and the game’s chaotic, anything-goes energy.
If you like your racing games loud, sarcastic, and just a little unhinged, fire up MegaRace and take the wheel. Virtual mayhem never looked so good.
