Game Overview

Mercenary III - The Dion Crisis is that rare sequel that actually builds on everything that made the first two games great. You're back in the cockpit after Damocles, but this time the stakes feel even higher—PC BIL is a proper menace, and the galaxy’s counting on you to stop them. Or not. That’s the beauty of it.

What hooked me was how many ways there are to play. You can go full politician, schmoozing your way to the presidency, or buy up half the galaxy’s real estate if you’d rather be a tycoon. Or, you know, just blow stuff up as an eco-terrorist. The planets and moons are packed with little clues and alternate paths—I spent way too long just poking around derelict space stations, finding weird side stories.

It’s still got that classic first-person hybrid thing going—part flight sim, part adventure, all freedom. Sometimes I’d forget there was a main plot and just go joyriding in stolen ships. The Amiga version nails the atmosphere, too—those chunky pixel planets feel massive when you’re skimming over them.

If you liked the earlier Mercenary games, this one’s a no-brainer. If you didn’t, well, it probably won’t change your mind—but for the rest of us, it’s a killer sendoff for the trilogy.
