Game Overview

Mine Shaft was part of the 0 MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled various titles from the early PC gaming era. The game was developed by David P. Gray and published by Gray Design Associates, placing it firmly in that period of simple, focused gameplay built for systems with limited graphical capabilities. It was a time when a clear objective and a clever mechanic were often enough to create a compelling challenge.

You control a miner who must dig through dirt and rock to collect gems scattered across each level. The main objective is to gather all the gems and then reach the exit ladder before your air supply runs out. The signature mechanics involve careful path planning to avoid getting trapped by falling dirt, and strategic use of dynamite to clear stubborn rock formations. The pacing is tense, as every action consumes your limited air, and the difficulty ramps up quickly with more complex cavern layouts and tighter time constraints. It feels like a constant, satisfying puzzle where every move matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
