Game Overview

Monster Bash came out in 1993, published by Apogee Software, and it was one of those classic side-scrolling platformers that felt right at home on MS-DOS. It didn't try to push the hardware to its limits, but it had a clear, cartoonish charm that stood out among the shareware titles of the era. You played as a kid named Johnny Dash, thrown into a monster-infested mansion, and the goal was straightforward: rescue your kidnapped dog from the clutches of Count Chuck.

You control Johnny, moving screen by screen through themed levels like a spooky castle or a graveyard. Your main weapon is a slingshot, which you use to take out bats, zombies, and other creatures; some enemies require a well-aimed shot or a quick jump to avoid. The objective in each stage is to find and free all the caged pets before reaching the exit, while also collecting treasure and avoiding environmental hazards like electrified sockets or bottomless pits. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in later episodes. It feels like a tense, sometimes silly race against the clock where every shot and jump matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
