Mortal Kombat 4’s janky 3D movement takes getting used to, but whacking people with Jax’s metal arms or pulling off Reptile’s acid fatality still feels satisfyingly brutal. That "FIGHT!" yell alone makes it worth booting up.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat 4 on the N64 was the first time the series went full 3D, and honestly? It was a weird transition. The blocky character models haven’t aged great, but there’s something charming about how awkwardly Liu Kang and Scorpion lumber around the stage. The weapons add a fun twist—nothing like smacking someone with Jax’s metal arms or Quan Chi’s ridiculous skull staff.

It still feels like Mortal Kombat, though. The fatalities are as over-the-top as ever (Reptile’s acid spit never gets old), and the announcer yelling "FIGHT!" hits that nostalgia button hard. Just don’t expect it to play as smoothly as later entries—this was the series still figuring out 3D movement.

If you grew up with the N64, this was probably your first taste of blood-soaked kombat at home. The PAL version runs a little slower, but hey, at least you get to hear Shinnok monologue in slightly delayed English.
