Play Mortal Kombat 4 (Europe) Online

Mortal Kombat 4’s janky 3D movement takes getting used to, but whacking people with Jax’s metal arms or pulling off Reptile’s acid fatality still feels satisfyingly brutal. That "FIGHT!" yell alone makes it worth booting up.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat 4 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by Midway Games. It was one of the first attempts to bring the series into 3D, and on the N64 it felt like a solid, if sometimes awkward, transition from the arcade. The hardware could handle the gore and the character models well enough, even if some of the textures looked a bit rough around the edges.

You pick a fighter like Scorpion or Sub-Zero and face off against opponents in one-on-one combat. The main goal is to beat your rival in each match, often by depleting their health bar or performing a fatality. Signature mechanics include the ability to pick up weapons during fights, like a hammer or sword, and use them for extra damage; there are also multiple fatalities per character, some requiring close proximity or specific button combinations. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially against the computer in later rounds. It feels chaotic and a little unrefined, but landing a well-timed special move or finishing someone off never gets old.
