Play Mortal Kombat - Deadly Alliance (E)(Independent) Online

Switching between Scorpion’s spear and sword mid-fight on a GBA felt ridiculous in the best way—bloody fatalities included, obviously. That weird dungeon mode? No idea why it worked, but punching mummies for loot hooked me.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance on GBA was a big deal when it dropped—it felt like the series finally woke up after a rough patch. The big hook? Every fighter has three different combat styles you can switch between mid-match, which was wild for a handheld game at the time. Scorpion’s got his spear, sure, but now he can also flip into this brutal sword stance that changes how you approach fights.

It’s still janky in that classic early GBA fighting game way—tiny sprites, some awkward controls—but pulling off a fatality with pixelated blood flying everywhere never gets old. They even crammed in a weird RPG-lite mode where you unlock gear by beating up mummies in a dungeon. Not sure why, but I spent hours on it anyway.

If you’re into MK and have a soft spot for handhelds, this one’s a weird little time capsule worth revisiting.
