Game Overview

Okay, so Neo-Geo Cup '98 is basically the purest, most stripped-down arcade soccer you can get. No fancy career modes, no tactical overhauls—just pick a team and dive into fast, chaotic matches where every shot feels like it could decide the game. The controls are simple (pass, shoot, sprint), but the AI actually puts up a decent fight, especially on higher difficulties.

What I love is how unpredictable it feels—one second you're threading a perfect through ball, the next your defender trips over his own feet and gifts the opponent a breakaway. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, too, with these chunky player sprites and exaggerated goal celebrations. It’s not deep, but if you want a quick soccer fix without menus or microtransactions, this still delivers.

Just don’t expect realism. Slide tackles are borderline assault, and the ball physics occasionally defy gravity. But that’s part of the charm.
