You’re still jumping on goombas, but now you’re tapping weird blocks to rewrite the level—turn enemies into coins, freeze thwomps mid-air, or just watch your platforms vanish. Those later puzzles? Brutal.

New Super Mario World 2 feels like someone took the classic Mario formula and flipped it sideways. Instead of just running and jumping past enemies, you're constantly stopping to mess with these weird [P] blocks—some make platforms appear, others turn enemies into coins, and a few just straight-up vanish when you touch them. Took me a minute to stop treating it like a normal Mario game.
The health bar is a nice change, honestly. No more dying because you bumped into a koopa at the wrong angle. But don’t get too comfortable—some of those later puzzles will make you wish you could just run past everything. The levels get seriously clever, especially when they start stacking [P] block effects. I got stuck on one where you have to freeze a thwomp mid-air just to use it as a stepping stone.
It’s still Mario, just with way more head-scratching moments than you’d expect.
