Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Tecmo. It was a time when PC ports of console hits were still a novelty, and this one tried to bring Ryu Hayabusa’s ninja action to the keyboard. The game arrived when platformers were dominated by consoles, so seeing it on DOS felt both ambitious and a little rough around the edges.
You control Ryu, a ninja armed with a sword and various sub-weapons, moving screen by screen through enemy-filled stages. Your goal is to defeat Jaquio, who seeks to resurrect an ancient evil. Key mechanics include wall jumping to navigate vertical spaces, and the ability to create shadow clones that mimic your attacks but vanish after taking a hit. Combat is fast and unforgiving; enemies respawn quickly and attack from all directions. It feels tense and demanding, a game where every jump and slash must be deliberate to survive.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
