Game Overview

Oeka Kids - Anpanman to Oekaki Shiyou!! is one of those weird, delightful NES games that makes you go, "Wait, they made this back then?" It's basically a drawing toy starring Anpanman—that goofy superhero with a bread roll for a head—and his gang. You get these chunky pixel brushes, a handful of colors (by NES standards, anyway), and the freedom to scribble all over the screen.

At first, I just messed around filling in Anpanman’s face with weird colors, but then I realized you can actually animate your drawings frame by frame. It’s janky as heck, but there’s something charming about making Baikinman’s mustache wiggle with three whole pixels of movement. The whole thing feels like someone took Mario Paint’s grandpa and gave it a sugary Japanese kids’ show makeover.

Definitely more of a novelty than a "game," but if you’ve got a soft spot for retro oddities or grew up watching Anpanman, it’s a nostalgia trip worth doodling through.
