Play Oubliette Online
Explore a dark dungeon, manage your party, battle monsters, find treasure, and keep your adventurers alive in this classic text-based dungeon crawler from 1983.
Oubliette came out in 1983 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Daniel Lawrence. It was a dungeon crawler for its time, built on the kind of text and simple graphics that defined early PC gaming. You managed a party of adventurers, not just a single hero, which felt ambitious on those old systems.
You control a group of characters, moving them together through a dark, maze-like dungeon rendered in ASCII graphics. The main goal is to survive, find treasure, and defeat monsters, all while managing your party's health, spells, and equipment. Key mechanics include turn-based movement and combat, screen-by-screen exploration, and the constant need for light sources to see ahead. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with a high difficulty that punishes careless decisions. It feels tense and immersive, like you are really leading a fragile band of explorers into unknown depths.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
