Game Overview

Over the Hedge on the GBA is one of those movie tie-ins that actually gets it right. You start off as RJ the raccoon, sneaking through suburban backyards with that same chaotic energy from the film—except now you're the one tipping over trash cans and dodging humans. The controls feel surprisingly smooth for a handheld game, and switching between characters keeps things interesting. Hammy the squirrel? Absolute chaos in the best way.

It’s got that early 2000s platformer vibe—bright colors, snappy movement, and just enough challenge to keep you from breezing through. Some of the puzzles make you stop and think (or, in my case, mash buttons until something works), but it never takes itself too seriously. If you ever wanted to live out that scene where they ransack a kitchen for junk food, this is your chance. The soundtrack even nails that mischievous tone.

Honestly, it holds up better than most licensed games from that era. Just don’t blame me when you start craving snack cakes after playing.
