Pac'n Roll came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Namco. It was part of that early wave of DS games that really tried to make use of the touch screen in a direct, physical way, moving past simple menu navigation. The game takes the familiar maze concept from the arcade original and rebuilds it as a fully three-dimensional, physics-based platform adventure.

You control Pac-Man by rolling him around with the stylus, pushing him forward, steering his direction, and building momentum to climb slopes or leap across gaps. The main goal is to navigate through each screen-based stage, collecting Pac-Dots and reaching the exit, all while avoiding ghosts that can only be temporarily stunned, not eaten, unless you find a Power Pellet. Key mechanics include using special items, like a feather that lets you float gently after a jump or heavy armor that lets you sink underwater to access new areas. The pacing is deliberate, with levels that require careful control and timing rather than speed; mistakes often send you rolling off edges or into enemies, forcing a restart. It feels tactile and slightly unpredictable, like guiding a lively ball through an obstacle course someone built just to test your patience.
