Game Overview

Paperboy on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Tantalus Interactive. It was a portable version of the arcade and NES classic, fitting right in with the kind of quick, pick-up-and-play experiences the system was known for. You don't see many games about a paper route, but this one made it work.

You control a kid on a bicycle, pedaling down suburban streets and trying to hit subscribers' porches with the day's paper. The main objective is to deliver as many papers as possible while avoiding obstacles like runaway lawnmowers, angry dogs, and pesky pedestrians. Signature mechanics include aiming your throws with careful timing, navigating screen by screen as the road scrolls forward, and sometimes taking an alternate route to avoid particularly nasty hazards. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and good aim. It feels satisfying to nail a perfect throw on a moving target, even if you end up breaking a window or two along the way.
