Game Overview

Pocket Puyo Puyo 4 is that one Game Boy Color game I still dig out when I need a quick puzzle fix. You stack these weird little jelly blobs—Puyos—trying to match four of the same color before they pile up to the top. Sounds simple, right? Then you accidentally set off a five-chain combo and suddenly your opponent’s screen is buried under a mountain of garbage blocks. Oops.

The characters are all ridiculous (in a good way), the colors pop even on the tiny GBC screen, and matches get stupidly tense when you’re both one move away from wrecking each other. It’s the kind of game where you’ll yell “NO WAY” at your handheld and then immediately rematch. Perfect for short bursts or losing an hour without realizing it.
