Play Pokémon Ruby Online
Explore the Hoenn region, catch a bunch of Pokémon, battle trainers, and challenge gyms to become the Champion.
Pokémon Ruby came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. It was part of the third generation of Pokémon games, arriving when the handheld was hitting its stride with a stronger color palette and more detailed sprites. It felt like a solid step up from the earlier titles, with a new region to discover and a lot more to do.
You control a young trainer starting out in the Hoenn region, tasked with catching Pokémon, battling other trainers, and defeating eight gym leaders to qualify for the Pokémon League. Two major additions were the double battles, where you send out two Pokémon at once, and the introduction of Pokémon abilities, which added a deeper layer of strategy to fights. The game also emphasized exploration, with large areas to navigate both on land and by diving underwater. The pacing is steady, and while it's not overly difficult, some of the later gym leaders and the Elite Four require thoughtful team building. It feels rewarding to gradually build a strong team and see your strategies pay off in battle.
