Play Pokemon Fools’ Gold Online

Pokemon Fools’ Gold is a GBA romhack that feels familiar at first, but then throws some curveballs. You start in a region that looks like the usual Pokemon setup, but the creatures are... different. Some are just recolored, others are completely new designs, and a few make you wonder what the creator was thinking.

The early game is rough. Your starter choices are weird, and the first few trainer battles feel unbalanced. I remember picking what looked like a fire-type, only to realize it barely did any damage. Had to grind wild encounters just to get past the first gym.

It’s not all bad though. The map design is solid, with hidden areas that actually reward exploration. And some of the new Pokemon sprites are surprisingly well done. But the pacing is off—too much grinding, not enough story to keep it interesting.

If you’re into romhacks for the novelty, Pokemon Fools’ Gold has its moments. Just don’t expect a polished experience.
